Are you a cheat or the real deal? by Suzanne-Helmigh, journal
Are you a cheat or the real deal?
Let’s talk a bit about using references and other media for your (digital) paintings. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, however there are some assumptions that people make that we are better off clearing up.
Often during my Twitch streams people ask me:
:bulletblue: ‘I want to paint characters from imagination, how do I do it without copying from a reference?’
You have to train yourself with reference before you get the information memorized in your brain. That's why we do anatomy studies with live models, 3D models, photos of naked people etc. When doing these studies you must try and understand the thing you are
"I don't understand how you and a lot of other artists can charge so much money for art. For a person like me who doesn't have a lot of money 65$; even 20$ is too much. I'll be honest, in my opinion no digital artwork is worth even 10$ because it's all drawn with a computer and to me that is cheating. Like you don't have to do much work and it's not hard to draw. See, a lot of artists complain that they can't sell their artwork well NEWS FLASH: No one wants to buy art! No one feels they should have to buy art! You artists should be grateful people even look at your artwork let alone people pitifully spending money on it.
I saw your recent w
"The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else's highlight reel"
There's so much truth in this quote.
I can remember signing up to this website quite a number of years ago. I used to be among the best artists at school, but compared to most artists here... I absolutely sucked!
So I guess I did the thing that most people do when they first publish their shit on the world wide web and realize they aren't nearly as good at they thought they are; I got depressed and ragequit art for a while. Then I got back to drawing and lamented the fact that I wasn't among those insanely talented people

I've seen this happening countless times, and the case going on recently isn't the first or the last on the matter. I feel a lot of people use the "you can't copyright a style" shield way too much, either conscious or unconsciously. Which is, in my humble opinion, such a lame statement as saying "you can't copyright a personality" or "you can't
Ever feel like giving up on Art? by K-Koji, journal
Ever feel like giving up on Art?
I've been going through this kind of depression time where I feel like my art is pointless and I am not getting anywhere I want to be. It feels like I was more positive and doing better at it 2 years ago, and that now it doesn't seem to feel the same. It feels I may be wasting my time on a silly dream.
My questions are:
Has this happened to you?
If it has, what do you do to help inspire you forward?
Or is there something you tell yourself that makes you able to weather through the bad feeling?
Did you look to anyone else to give you a helping hand?
I'd like to know how many people this effects and how you handle it.
Thanks!
A simple guide on: Commissioning an Artist. by Suzanne-Helmigh, journal
A simple guide on: Commissioning an Artist.
It's often not as simple as one wants it to be when both artist and client want it to be: Cost efficient, time efficient and quality efficient.
I've often spend my time discussing the best way to handle commissions with clients and artist friends that I came to the conclusion that clarity and understanding is key.
I will divide the guidelines I work with based on 3 commission types.
:bulletblue: Character commissions.
:bulletblue: Book covers ( or illustrations)
:bulletblue: Concept art.
Reading all 3 parts will give you the full scope as a lot of it applies to one another as well.

How to rock those new years resolutions by DamaiMikaz, journal
How to rock those new years resolutions
2016 has come along and many of then have made our new years resolutions already. Personally, I'm not such a believer of the whole "new year, new me" bullshit for the simple reason that habits are hard to change and many people underestimate the time and effort that goes into that.
Needless to say, we're still gonna try :la:
Be specifcI've seen many people do the "I want to get better at drawing" kind of thing. While it's a great goal, it's far to vague to be an actual goal. What does "getting better" mean? What do you want to get better at? People in general (and you probably too) are very result driven. We want to see results. We need it,
PSA for Artists! Don't make the same mistake I did by yuumei, journal
PSA for Artists! Don't make the same mistake I did
I've been posting some video tutorials to teach aspiring artists my drawing techniques, but I think it's very important to learn from my mistakes as well.
I'm 25 right now, and I've been drawing all my life. I started drawing a lot more and professionally when I was about 19-20. I drew all the time and didn't think much about it. I would draw until I'm in pain, from sitting too long, from not eating because I was in the flow and didn't want to stop. I would get terrible back pains and even heart palpitations from sitting in the same position drawing for so long.
That's when the nails on my right hand started to get weird and lumpy. At first
That one lie we all believe... by DamaiMikaz, journal
That one lie we all believe...
"If I had more talent, more popularity or more followers, I would be happier"
If I got a dollar for every time I've heard somebody say that, I would probably be a millionaire right now. And in all honesty, hearing things like that irk me, knowing how untrue they are.
From early on in life we we get to hear this lie. Be a good kid, get good grades in school, enroll into a prestigious university and get a proper job at some big company.... that'll pave your way to happiness. Life (in the western world, at least) has never been more equal in the opportunity's we get, yet the rates of people suffering from depression and anxiety has never been s
All our art needs a bit of love sometimes . Maybe this can be achieved by a simple motivational comment or a chat between people.
No one needs a downer if anything! And a simple cheer can be just enough to wash someone's bad mojo away!
I'm here asking you if you need a boost or if you know someone who's really in need of some inspiration/comments/attention/feedback?
Feel free to submit thumbnails in the comment section and make sure to add a reason or a specific interaction you're looking for.
This could be the right time to post a work in progress or discuss work methods! I will pick a few thumbnails from nice people to add to the
